I finally got a chance to see the television show called “Wipeout” on ABC. Man, I haven’t laugh this hard since I don’t know when. The contestants are trying to finish an obstacle course to win $50,000. Not bad, right? Wrong! The course is challenging and there was no mercy for even the contestant “Pastor Bob”.
Although the show is flat out funny it gives us a perspective on what Paul says in the bible. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. 25 All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches.* 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
Remember why we are running this race called “life”. We are running to win. Not to take second place, but to win. The circumstances in this life are going to try to wipe us out, but we have to keep moving forward to towards Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
We’re not running to get $50,000 in cash, but for an eternal prize. So be encouraged. With the rising prices of everything and the shape of our economy don’t do any thing that will disqualify you to share the Good News with other people. Plain and simple don’t “Wipeout”!
